Protecting Your Smile With Great Oral Hygiene

When considering your oral health, there’s more to be concerned about than just your teeth. Healthy gums also play an important role in preserving your smile. Therefore, your friends at Smiles Dental want you to know that it’s crucial to maintain good oral hygiene in order to protect your pearly whites.

Dr. Brooks and his team encourage you to establish a consistent daily oral hygiene routine and to visit us for your regularly scheduled dental cleanings and exams. Brush your teeth twice a day, every single day, for at least two minutes per brushing session.

We recommend soft-bristled toothbrushes for most of our patients. And be sure that your toothpaste includes fluoride. It’s equally essential to floss once a day, preferably at nighttime, before you go to sleep.

Brushing alone will not clean your teeth well enough. Even if you’re an excellent tooth-brusher, you will fail to clean about 40 percent of the surface area of your teeth if you choose not to floss!

Perhaps the most challenging tip for maintaining good oral hygiene is ensuring that you eat a balanced diet. You can help to prevent tooth decay by limiting your intake of sugary and acidic food and drinks.

Here at Smiles Dental, we can certainly assist our patients through dental emergencies, but Dr. Brooks prefers to simply help you maintain pristine oral health so you can enjoy a better quality of life.

So, if it’s been a while since you’ve visited your friendly neighborhood dental office, come and see us so we can assess your oral health. Call 360.464.9797 to make an appointment, and we’ll be happy to serve you.
